Left 4 Dead 2 - markg - 11-17-2009 Left 4 Dead 2 launched yesterday. The dedicated server files were made available about 3.5 hours early, so i installed them figuring we would need servers to play on (and get some 'free' publicity for the clan). between the time they were first released and the time the game was released, they were already on version 3! anyway, i ended up putting up 4 servers; one restricted to nbs, the other 3 open to anyone; they have been busy 24/7 since! the interesting thing, though, is that i still have 12054 individual users in our server database. this means the players who played last night already played on one of our servers at some point, which really means our ban system has some teeth! (i was wondering if banning meant anything when there were so many other places to go. But at least i know there is roughly a fixed set of players that join the servers, and since you dont choose your own in l4d...) anyway, same ip address, same everything as the original L4D if you want to use them. I took down the L4D demo servers and original L4D servers and wont be replacing them. also note; this ran on the new hardware without a glitch! im almost done moving things over, just a few things to finish up. Finally, we went from about 70% cpu utilization on the old system to about 6% on the new one! So even though tf2 was empty, we have plenty of headroom to run pretty much whatever we want within the 10mb internet pipe limitation. |
