Power Supply Fail (again) - markg - 10-28-2010
so a month or two ago we had a power supply fail in the game server. I did have an older/smaller spare that i plugged in, and that has been working ok, except it is undersized for the application (the old one was 850 watts, this one 650) and LOUD!!!!
didnt realize at first the warranty was 3 years, so i threw it out. but then i started thinking.....and a month later pulled it out of the trash can, and sent it back to silverstone. a week later, i now have a brand new 850 watt power supply!! but wait, theres more....since the old one is out of production, all they could send me is the newest "plus" model, which is much better and quieter!!
the only bad news is that they changed the cable system, so i have to re run all the cables. so the server will be down for a couple hours some time in the next 4 or 5 days while i do that.
i will move teamspeak to another server for the down time, so that will continue to function. just the game servers/stats will be down.

Power supply has been replaced, and all new cabling installed. There was a weird whine that traced to an exhaust fan you couldnt hear over the old supply, so i replaced that with a spare.
Its now DONE, and QUIET!!!!! You can hardly hear it run!
