Brain surgery on the server
#1
the game server is running a raid 1 system, which is two mirrored disks, so if one breaks the other one takes over with no down time. this has been working for a several years, but the drives are getting noisy/wearing out, so it was time to replace them.

what started out as an easy pull/replace, turned into brain surgery.

i purchased western digital wd20ears drives, and what a f'in disaster!
they are the latest 4k partition drives, and winxp just dont like them at all!! DONT BUY THEM!!!!!

i ended up taking one back, having to eat the other one. and ended up making a few other changes at the same time.

the server is cloning over the drive now, and should be back up some time tomorrow. in the meantime i transferred the busiest servers (kf and ts3) over to an alternate box until the dedicated server is back up and running, hopefully tomorrow.

Update:

everything is done, server back up and running. Found an issue with the Alien Swarm server; it seems the last update broke something, and although it was on line, no one could join. Fixed that problem, and everything should be fine!

lets hope this works for another couple years without me having to do anything else!!
