Its now time, and im going to start ordering parts for the new box; should be completed in a month or thereabouts.
For today and tomorrow (friday/saturday) im running a full blown test on the new dedicated server system;
3x Left 4 Dead servers
2x TF2 servers (rotation + password protected practice)
Teamspeak
Vent
all on the production box, all running with the web based interface with fail safe and remote connect/update/reboot.
This is it, if this works, im done!!!
Note; saturday evening the systems will revert back to the old box, and whatever didnt work right will be fixed. Please try everything you can, including the practice server; for now its set up exactly the same as the rotation, but password protected with 'nbs'. do whatever you want; i'll probably increase the ability to change maps on that one, and add a bunch of extra practice maps. but for now, try whats there.
left 4 dead servers dont really need any extra testing; they will either work or they wont through the lobby system, based on whether they crash/use too much cpu or not. but they should be fine.
the limiting factor here is going to be bandwidth; i have a 10mip upload connection, and i suspect if everything is full it may more than eat that, as there is a theoretical max of 32+24+8+8+8=80 players. Might be too much, and if so i will throttle the practice server down to 16 slots and maybe drop a L4D server. That assumes we even need a practice server. (Or maybe a sniper only server, just to watch it fail...)
some of this will change when Left 4 Dead 2 comes out next month, since i will migrate them over to version 2; no telling what kind of bandwidth they will take! (but cpu wise we are good even if i manage to get fios @ 20mip upload!)
