Data Base Crash
#1
Our SQL database, the engine that drives the forums, partially crashed friday night.

The good news is that only the postings section died; the bad news is that i wasnt able to restore just that piece, as they wouldnt hook into the indexing system. So i had to do a total restore from a backup copy made Tuesday morning.

So we lost about 4 days of stuff (tuesday morning through friday evening). During that time know nunswitguns posted a nice introduction, and i posted a few things as well, but they are gone.

Lucky we didnt lose more. But just in case i now have it backing up twice a week vs once a week. (and if this ever happens again, once a day. But i talked to one of the developers, and he said what happened cant happen. go figure....)

[edit] It seems some of the permissions got messed up with the crash, including the "Apply Here" forum. It has been fixed.

Figured out what caused this; its due to a defect/limitation/bug in the forum software. Basically, there is a sequence that will cause this, is repeatable (ask me how i know...) and i just wont do it again!

i have informed the developers.
